2012 Saturday Masters Series

2012 Saturday Masters Series - Endurance Events
Promoter: Mark Rodamaker
Official: Mark Rodamaker

I'm not sure results will format very well. Will make another effort if it looks really bad. Saturday afternoon was the first of the Master racing series. We have had extremely limited master's racing for a number of years now. If you think this is a good idea, come down to race. This is only scheduled 4 times this year. The calendar looks like there are 9 of them but 3 will become sprint tourneys and 2 will be keirin only. For these other events, I will attempt to break out women, juniors or masters if the turnout makes it possible. Next week (5/12/2012) is a sprint tourney.
Format was Men 40+, Men 55+ and Women 40+. Turnout was rather low with fields being 4,7 and 4 respectively. Not surprising or discouraging as Cat's Hill was the same day and it was the first time. Hope to build momentum and maybe go to a weekly format next year. Ran a scratch race for each group, a win and out and then a points race. With the small fields, points races were shortened to 16 laps with sprints every 4. Leo did lap card for a while but then left. I won't mention why. Ran the races myself until we hit the Points races. Lorraine and then Warren did the scoring as it was clear that attempting to announce to the single spectator, flip lap cards and score the race by myself was not going to work. The race results are below.
After the official racing was done (official ?) we ran a combined inverse win and out. I'm not sure this is a real race but seemed like a good idea at the time. Ride some # of laps. Winner of 1st sprint gets 5th. Winner of 2nd sprint gets 4th. Then sprint for 1,2,3. Barry rode off the front and won 5th by about a half lap. Larry Wolff looked like he wanted to pick up the pace but then realized that would net 4th. The entire remaining field then back pedalled hard out of turn 4. Kelly back pedalled the least and got 4th. Those of us watching were now laughing too hard to remember who then got the other places.
